Excello Recording Sessions

The Saint Hollywood team was in the studio in Williamsburg at the excellent Excello Recording studio. Keyboardist and musical director,Yuval Semo (originally from Tel Aviv, Israel and a grad of Boston’s Berkley School of Music along with Mack Price(leader of the infamous band, The Prigs!) out of Dallas, on guitars and bass, produced three tracks from the show, BLACK CADILLAC, SUNSET BLVD, and GIRLFRIEND HEAVEN. Tom Roslak provided the same amazing Thor-like attack on drums that he did in the live performances of the show. Nathan, of Excello, was our most extraordinary engineer. Sahirah Johnson laid down some monster backup vocals, providing us awesome original riffs. Matt Silberman and Aaron Henry blew some smokin’ lines on sax, with Henry doubling on flute. It was great to be recording with these super talents. May the Saints be with you! We’ll be back on stage this fall. Stay tuned.

Dennis Woodruff, who is one of the many characters in Saint Hollywood, sells his movies on the streets of LA, on his website, and, apparently, you can download his MISTER HOLLYWOOD on the Troma Movie site. Dennis has been a Hollywood icon for over 20 years, promoting his career with his famous art cars, one of which is in the Petersen Automotive Museum! Dennis keeps in touch regularly and is now achieving media stardom he deserves!

62 years old today, the state of Israel doesn’t look a day over ancient! It’s like yesterday I was playing at his bar mitzvah! Shaina punim with a quick left-hook. So there I was turning the corner of of 56th and Fifth Ave as I broke into my signature ‘Don’t Step on My Blue Suede Yarmulke’ – Millions were entralled by the vision of the Jewish King! I shared the bill with the ill YLove, and the melifuloso Kosher Dilll, shout out, ya hear? Jelvis’ mission is to bring the international ‘Elvi’ to Jerusalem in the name of World Peace. Represent, my Brothers-in-Elvis!

Salute to Israel

This Sunday, May 23rd, as part of the Salute to Israel celebrating 62 years of Israel’s existence, my alter-go, Jelvis, the Jewish Elvis, will be riding, not in a pink Caddy convertible, but on the Jewish TV channel’s float, riding from 57th Street up Fifth Ave to 79th St. The Jel-Man’s dream-come-true ( which wasn’t realized this past Challoween!) began with a call from Rebecca Hoenig Friedman, a producer for the Jewish cable station, not on her I-Phone but her ‘Oy-Phone’. I’m happy to be spreading the message of world peace through the music of the Memphis King while celebrating Israel’s birth. I met with Shmelvis, another Jewish Elvis, in St. Alban’s which is a town just outside London. Martyn Diaz, his real-life moniker, introduced me to Sal, the Pakistani Elvis. Plans for a world peace gathering of international Elvi is in a planning stage. My first trip to Israel was an incredible experience, the high point being the Wailing Wall where I met so many young soldiers preparing for a celebration that night. The girls in uniform were an awesome outfit, and, I think, all the more reason the boys so willingly serve!

Travels over …..

So many airports, so many flights, so many air miles, so many in-flight instructions in my headphones, so many passport control officers with no sense of humor (until we got back to NYC!), and still, still, I haven’t found the perfect bag to travel with. Eagle Creek Tarmac carry-on, Eagle Creek Tarmac 25″, Timberland back pack almost make it but…. then I see the new carbon fiber four-wheelers that just glide along, this way and that…those blinkin’ Rimowas! Someone felt the same. This red bag gets a Minus Four Morgan Method M’s! MM recommends replacing your outdated, useless, embarassing luggage at Altman’s on Orchard St.

Luggage of the Gods?

Where next? In July there’s Arles for a photo festival in the south of France and the Fiesta del Fuego in Santiago de Cuba…it’s a toss up but either way…..gotta go pack a bag!
