John Oliver just did an amazingly on target segment on the fashion industry. Pointing out that 98% of our clothing is made overseas, and often using child labor, he made a strong statement against sweatshops and our out-of-control need for cheap clothing.

Check out Sweatshop Boogie’s lyrics for commentary on “fashion is a deadly weapon in the wrong hands.” (photo: the Sweatshop Boogie team)

Tickets are available now for my performance on Thursday, October 8 at 7:30pm. Mark your calendars and get your tickets – it’s going to be a wild musically comic adventure!

Last November, I was interviewed by the lovely Aki Higuchi in Tokyo for Japanese television. In the interview, besides discussing my career, she asked what advice I had for young people. I advised to “fight hard for what brings you pleasure and hopefully gives other people pleasure and help.” (And I’m living proof that I practice what I preach!)

Sweatshop Boogie…

Posted by on Apr 8, 2015 in Project

Currently shooting videos of three songs with the Ideal Orkestra for Sweatshop Boogie, an in-progress project exploring themes connected to the power of fashion throughout the ages.  The songs, Sweatshop Boogie Theme, What’s Going to Be in Your Go Bag? and King of Kicks all feature the brilliant costumes of Ute Bekaia. (That’s me in over-the-top silver splendor). Stay tuned for more information on Sweatshop Boogie, coming soon to a stage near you!
